Artist's Comments
Yo check dis! This is none other than my main man Art Deco.
(Excuse my sudden rush of Ali G mannerism, but I been watching too much ALi G recently.) This is a tribute to the Art that built the city I live in, also known as "The city that never sleeps" (it's night time and it looks like it's sleeping from here), "The Big Apple" (The regional apple, McIntosh is not such a big apple, neither the Manhattan borough, the smallest in US), and "Gotham City" (yes, we live up to that name by our goth populous' semi-conscious efforts in Lower East Side and Astor Place), or New York Fuckin City. Now I have to tell you this, don't think I will humbly show my admiration and such, I love the city I live in, and I love it the way New Yorkers love it. Now, they might say Ann Arbor Michigan is the most comfortable city to live in US, here in New York, we don't give a shit about "comfort". We know we will kick Ann Arbor's ass non stop, 24-7. That's New York loving for you. Bragging and being rude, and not giving a rat's ass for other people's opinions. As time goes by it builds that character. Lack of character or what not, NY rules. Now this one above is typical illustration of the New York, Alley Cat passing in front of the Full Moon, with the search lights kniving through the heavens yada yada. Fohget about it boss. There ain't no alley cats or stray cats in NYC anymore. Not this day and age. But there was this one time, when it used to be more or less common. That must be time, when the inspiration just passed in front of an illustrators window. And hence the instant classic. Well, I humbly represent that Art Deco style and heritage in my own way. A non immigrant under student visa, and still admiring. What's do you make out it? I don't know. What do I know. I love this City. And here's my not -so-humble tribute to the City and its facade: Art Deco. Now for the technical specs (yawning already?) This is , believe you me, is a still frame from my upcoming Animation I am planning to do on Moho (check it out peopl here's how you can get the program for a mere 100 bucks: [link]). Yet it's a little bit embellished, and even a little Byzantine version of the animation-to-be. I touched it up, cranked it up in PS CS. To this extent. I have to say I am rather happy with the final result, and I might say its my magnum opus, although its done in mere 3 hours, impromptu!. That's how the inspiration flows. Finally last but not least: I dedicate this one to my Cheja, dearest. Thanks for sharing this city and an epoch together. (carl sagan out, yo man!) August, 2004, NYC (bow down and respek yo!) |
